Most dogs jump on you because they want to show you stop your dog jumping up. While this can be adorable with little puppies, this can be a problem when your dog becomes a 15-pound animal.
What can you do with the jumping dog?
Of course, there are many methods to stop the dog leap. I will describe three methods that I think work very well and do not trust violence. It would be better if you choose a way of working so that your dog is not confused. If this method does not work for some reason, you can always start with another.
Whatever you do, you have to be consistent. If you decide that your dog should not jump over people, you should never encourage him to jump on you or others. It does not matter if you wear your best clothes or your oldest sweatshirt; The jump should never be allowed.
1. Ignore unwanted behaviors
When you get home and your dog starts jumping on you, turn it over and ignore it. Do not yell at him and do not punish him. Just do not pass up. When you move away from him and your dog bounces on your legs (or even if it's big enough), try to stay still. If it appears in front of you and is skipped again, repeat the process: turn it over and ignore it.
After you have finally calmed down, sit or stand, congratulate him, bow him and give him a reward. If he skips again, ignore him until he does what you want. This approach is based on the fact that the dog stops repeating behavior that is not rewarded. It works well, but it takes time and patience.
2. Keep your legs
If you follow this method, train your dog so that he does not jump when he does something that makes him uncomfortable. If he jumps on you, take your legs and hold them for a few moments. If you try to escape, leave it. Do not hold your legs longer than necessary and do not over tighten them. You do not want to cause pain or anxiety. All he wants to do with this method is that he connects by jumping on people with something unpleasant.
If you do this every time he jumps on you, he will soon stop jumping. All you have to do is affirm your good behavior. Whenever your legs (4) are on the ground, act with joy and reward your dog for his good behavior. The jump will be gone in a short time.
3. The command 'Sit'
This method is only for dogs that already know and follow the Sit command. This command is essential for any obedience training. If your dog jumps on you, give him the command "Sit down". In this way, you can skip a training step: you do not have to tell your dog what he should not do, just what he wants you to do.
To summarize, every time your dog starts to jump, say "Sit down." If you obey, reward the behavior with a speech or a compliment. After a while, your dog learns to welcome you in a sitting position. Again, this method requires your dog to follow the Sit command.
Here are the simple steps to teach your dog the "off" command:
- Once your pet jumps on the furniture or even on a person, be sure to say "OFF". As soon as possible
- He can even scold his puppy with his mouth open, show his teeth and make eye contact. You do not really have to growl. You can grunt with your mouth open or just grunt softly. In this way, adult dogs ask their puppies to calm down so that their pet understands what you want them to say.
- Repeat the roar every time your dog tries to jump until you do not have to do it twice. Once you see that you obey, you must rent it. This particular exercise shows that he is the leader of his dog's pack. In the wild, subordinate dogs do not jump on their leader. Jumping on the leader means the subordinate is trying to challenge him. The leader does not tolerate that, so you should not.
- Each family member needs to learn how to use this command. Your new dog must understand that all family members depend on him to end this behavioral problem of the dog at a later date.
